Sean Dyche is confident Seamus Coleman will continue his playing career beyond this season.

While a decision is yet to be made on the Blues skipper's future at Everton, Dyche told the media in yesterday's press conference discussions are ongoing.

In a clip posted to the BBC Sport website, the manager said: “He’s been great, but it’s ongoing I think. I’ve already spoken to him about his view at this stage, I mean there’s another couple of weeks left and I said to reflect on where you’re at.

“I think his thirst is to keep playing so we’ll be looking into that. I don’t think there’s any reason to wonder about his last game and certainly not at this stage and those are his words, not mine.

“He’s made it clear at this stage his mindset is to keep playing.”

Looking ahead to the weekend, Everton host Sheffield United for the final home match of the campaign.

With Premier League safety secured for the Blues and relegation confirmed for the visitors, pundits Chris Sutton and Paul Merson have backed the hosts to win on Saturday.

Writing on the BBC Sport website, Sutton said: “The pressure is all off Everton now, but this is their final home game of the season, and they will want to sign off on a high note.

“Sheffield United’s campaign has been disastrous from the start. They have conceded 100 league goals already, and I don’t think they are stopping there.

“You would not describe Everton as a free-scoring team, but the Blades have a habit of capitulating, and I am going with a pretty routine win for Sean Dyche’s side. 2-0.”

Over on Sportskeeda, Merson said: “This is a lovely end-of-the-season kind of game for Everton which I think they’ll win quite easily.

“They’ve done brilliantly well in recent weeks to claw their way out of the relegation battle, but in the coming season, they are going to have to improve to avoid setting a dangerous precedent.

“Something has to change quickly at Everton, but Sean Dyche is a top manager and knows what it takes to keep the club in the top flight.

“Sheffield United missed chance after chance last week and were ripped to shreds due to some bad defending. I can see that continuing this week, so I’m going for a comfortable Everton win.”
