Phil Neville has warned Benfica to expect a totally different Everton in the return game.
The Portuguese outfit beat the Toffees 5-0 on Thursday and are Everton's next European visitors to Goodison Park on 5 November.
It was a severely under-strength Blues side which suffered that defeat, and Club captain Neville is confident the nature of the reverse will serve to galvanise his troops.
“The game at Goodison will be different," he declared. "You’ll see a different Everton side. I’m convinced that we can beat them.
“I think the score line tonight tells you we’ve made five mistakes. We can’t make those mistakes against the top European sides if we want to progress and win this competition which we do."
Missing eleven first teamers, Everton held their own in the first half in the Estadio da Luz, before three goals at the start of the second period condemned them to heavy defeat.
But, recalling past experiences as a Blue, Neville expects a reaction - not only in the bonfire night clash but on Sunday at the Reebok Stadium when Everton face Bolton.
“When the chips are down and our backs are to the wall and people are writing us off, that’s when this Club gels together and we will do that, I’m sure of it," he continued.
“I’m sure everyone is disappointed but we have to win Sunday now to put this result behind us. They have world class players, but I’m sure when we get them back to Goodison and we get everybody fit – because we had a really inexperienced side out there tonight and in European football you have to play with experience – it will be a different game.”

i think the problem was the defence, with to young boys and hibbert out of position we didn't really have a clue.. last year our defensive record was brilliant, and we always are a team built on defense, i just think with boys in and out at the back this summer its going to take a while to gel
Agree with steve?
